- Question: There are many who subscribe to Salafiyyah in this group-filled atmosphere. There are even many who subscribe to Salafiyyah and prevent others from Salafiyyah. What rule does Salafiyyah have?
Shaykh al-Fawzân: Allâh (jalla wa ‘alâ) says:
“And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct – Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him.”
(The Qur’ân 9:100, interpretation of the meaning)
Salafiyyah is thusly based upon the methodology of the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajirîn and the Ansar. The prophet (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Therefore stick to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of my orthodox, rightly-guided caliphs. Cling to it with your molar teeth.”
A real Salafî follows the Salaf without exaggeration or downplay. He is moderate in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf. Not all who call themselves “Salafî” are Salafis. He is not a Salafî as long as he is not following in a correct way. A correct way means a mastered way. He can’t follow the Salaf in a correct way if he does not learn the creed and methodology of the Salaf so that he follows them in a correct way. Salafiyyah is not only a claim in ignorance. It requires knowledge and insight so that we follow them in a correct way.
