Question: Recently, a lot has been said about how some people not are Salafiyyûn. Is this meaning considered to be Tabdî’ and is it required that one first finds out the truth?

Shaykh al-Fawzân: I warn against these nicknames. The Muslims and the students are – if Allâh wills – in a good condition and in accordance with the creed of the Salaf. Just because one person possesses negligence or ignorance, then that does not mean that he is excluded from Salafiyyah. It is not allowed to speak in this way. This speech is not allowed between the brothers, students and the Muslims in the Muslim lands. This speech is not allowed. It is obligatory to advise if one sees something noteworthy in his brother. But to just say that he does not belong to the Salafiyyûn? It is perhaps you who have not understood Salafiyyah yet. Some subscribe to Salafiyyah without understanding it. [Unclear sound]… Salafî. If you ask him about Salafiyyah, he doesn’t know.

Ibn 'Uthaymin: The truth is most of the time with the majority. (Sharh-ul-Usul, p. 294)

Abu Qulabah: If you find out that your brother has done something you despise, you should then look for excuses for him. If you do not find any excuse for him, you say: He has to have an excuse I do not know of. (ar-Rawdhah, p. 184)

al-Qurtubî: They sometimes formulate the trinity by saying "The Father, the son and the Holy spirit". Thus, they mean that the Father is the existence, the son is al-Masîh (Messiah) and the Holy spirit is the knowledge. Ibn 'Uthaymin: Men are smarter than women but there are women whom are smarter than men. (Sharh-ul-Usul, p. 290)

Sh al-Fawzan said: Malik, Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn-ul-Qayyim say that Jizyah is taken from all disbelievers. Abu Hanifah says that it is only taken from foreign disbelievers and not the Arabic ones. ash-Shafi'i, Ahmad and a group of scholars say that it taken from the people of the book and the fire-worshipers. Ibn Taymiyyah: If it were not to be so, that he reaches something better through listening than reading, it would have been more fitting that he does the best of the two - to read. But when the Book (Qur'an), the Sunnah and the consensus prove that it is better to listen than to read, one knows that he who listens reaches something better than what he who reads reaches. This significance is in al-Fatihah and other than it. Thus, the one who listens to the reading of the Imam reaches something better than what is reached by reading - and thus one is not allowed to be commanded with something lower and be forbidden from something higher. al-Albânî: The scholars in Azhar master the Arabic language, Qur’ân interpretations, traditional Fiqh and other things. However, they are as far away from the Sunnah as one can be. There are however some sincere people among them. If someone reminds them, they accept it. (SHN 206)

Ibn Taymiyyah: Some of those we met used to read at the moment when there is silence after every verse. He (az-Zuhri) said: The people then stopped reading with the messenger of Allah ﷺ in those prayers where he read loudly when they heard that from the messenger of Allah ﷺ."
