Question: How do you advise those who slander the scholars who follow the way of the Salaf and say that one should not take knowledge from them since they are not error-free?
Shaykh al-Fawzân: It is true that the scholars are not error-free. We shall however take knowledge from them since they quote Allâh and His messenger (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam). They do not come with something of their own. They convey from the error-free (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam). They teach us the Qur’ân and Sunnah, of which both are error-free. The Qur’ân and Sunnah are error-free. As for Fiqh and the statements of the scholars, they should be confronted with the evidence. That which agrees with the evidence is accepted and that which contradicts the evidence is left.
