Question: Why are all of those who call towards Tawhîd called as “Wahhâbiyyah” ever since Shaykh Muhammad bin ‘Abdil-Wahhâb (rahimahullâh)? This word scares off many people from those who call towards Tawhîd.

Shaykh al-Fawzân: No, it doesn’t scare off at all. We are proud of the fact that the one who calls towards Tawhîd is called as “Wahhâbî” and all praise is due to Allâh. What is the one who calls towards Shirk (idolatry, polytheism) called then? What is he called? Jâhilî!

We are proud of it. Let them then say “Wahhâbî”. They are thusly themselves witnessing that the call of Wahhâbiyyah is a call towards Tawhîd. The author of “al-Lanjah” (rahimahullâh) said:

“If the one who follows Ahmad is a Wahhâbî, then let the humans and Jinns witness that I am a Wahhâbî.”

Ahmad here is the messenger (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam);

“If the one who follows Ahmad is a Wahhâbî, then let the humans and Jinns witness that I am a Wahhâbî.”

Gems of wisdom:

Ibn Taymiyyah: The christians say that the disciples of 'Îsâ are faultless while they slander prophets such as Sulaymân (Solomon). (al-Minhaj 6/187)

Ibn 'Uthaymin: "A Muqallid has no right to issue Fatawa and is not allowed to do it if there are scholars in the surrounding." (Sharh-ul-Usul, p. 603)

as-Sa'di: This life is a journey. One travels towards his Lord from birth. (Taysir-ul-Karim, p. 836)

Al-Albânî: "It is not from the Sunnah to sit in a big ring while having a lecture." (SHN 213)

Ibn 'Uthaymin: A Muqallid has no right to issue Fatawa and is not allowed to do it if there are scholars in the surrounding. (Sharh-ul-Usul, p. 603)

adh-Dhahabî: The courage of Ibn Taymiyyah reminds of the great heroes. His battle against the mongolians was astonishing. (al- 'Uqud, p. 118)

as-Sa'di: The person who makes fun of others is oftentimes worse than them. To make fun of people only springs from a heart that is full of bad characters. (Taysir-ul-Karim, p. 801)

Al-Fawzân: Have patience with the shortcommings of the woman. Do not argue about every little thing she does. Overlook the faults that do not affect the marriage. (al-Iffihaf, p.865)

The Messenger - salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam - said: 'Indeed every religion has a characteristic and the characteristic of Islam is modesty.' (Silsilah Ahadith As-Sahihah No. 940)

Ibn-ul-Qayyim: Patience is that the heart does not feel anger towards that which is destined and that the mouth does not complain. (al-'Uddah, p. 156)

Ibn 'Uthaymeen: We do not acknowledge any ears to Allâh since there is no evidence for it. (LBM 72)

Ibn Rajab: It was said to al-Hasan: 'Is not the servant ashamed of sinning and then repenting, and then sinning again and then again repenting?' He said: Satan wants exaclty that. Never stop making repentance. (Jami'-ul-'Ulum, p.205)

Allâh (ta'âlâ) said: “O Âdam, your laughter in Paradise is yours, while your weeping in this worldly life is Ours." (al-Fawâ'id p.103, interpretation of the meanings)

"Have mercy over those whom are upon the earth, and He who is above the heaven will have mercy over you" (al-Huda wan-Nûr tape 674 of al-Albânî)

Ibn Taymiyyah: "The one who says that it is Halâl (lawful) to get high by hashish, has blasphemed." (Al-Fatâwâ 34/204)

al-Albani: Many students of today busy themselves with the errors of others instead of their own. (al-Huda wan-Nur 788)

Ibn Taymiyyah: “If Allâh wants good for someone, He lets him understand the religion. If He does not want good for him, He then does not let him understand the religion." (al-'Iraqiyyah 1/385)

al-Fawzan: Those who say that there is no difference between man and woman want to destroy the society. The disbelieving countries are behind this. (al-Ittihaf, p. 860)

Ibn 'Abdil-Barr: Ibn Mas'ud said: Do you read behind the Imam? They said "Yes" He then said: You lack understanding. Why do you not understand? (al-Istidhkar 2/465)

Shaykh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah wrote: "I have forgiven those who have lied about me and treated me unjustly." (al-'Uqud, p. 265)

Ibn Taymiyyah: "The one who says that Abu Hanîfah considered it allowed to drink a small amount of alcohol, has lied." (al-fatâwâ 34/203)

Shaykh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah wrote: "I have forgiven those who have lied about me and treated me unjustly." (al-'Uqud, p. 265)

Shaykh al-Albânî: There is no evidence that Allâh has more than two eyes. This is what is reported from the Salaf. (Silsilat-ul-Hudâ wan-Nûr 183)

al-Albânî said: "I fear that Salafiyyûn one day will say: 'Photography isn't 'picture making'. You just press a button.'." (Silsilat-ul-Hudâ wan-Nûr 393)

Ibn 'Uthaymin: The truth is most of the time with the majority. (Sharh-ul-Usul, p. 294)

al-Albani: However, Ibn-ul-Jawzi has statements in his Tafsir Zad-ul-Masir that differ from 'Daf' Shubah-it-Tashbih' which he might have written as a youth. (al-Huda wan-Nur 795)

al-Albânî: "If you ask about my condition, then I say that I am soft." (Cassette: ash-Shiddah ´inda as-Salafiyyeen)

Shaykh-ul-Islâm Ibn Taymiyyah: “All Muslims deem the heavens to be round. Several scholars have declared consensus concerning it... Only ignorant people say that the earth isn't round.” (Madjmû´-ul-Fatâwâ [6/586-587])

Ibn Taymiyyah: Imprisoned is he whose heart is imprisoned from Allâh. Captured is he who is captured by his desires. (al-Wabil, p. 109)

Ibn Taymiyyah: The evil that exists is not pure evil. It is only evil according to the one who is affected by it. People can benefit from the miseries of others. (al-'Iraqiyyah 1/508)

as-Sa'dee wrote: "Woe to the one who shaves" (al-Fataawaa as-Sa´diyyah)

Abû Dâwûd said: "I heared Ahmad say: 'The one who does not perform his prayer, is a kâfir" (ash-Sharî´ah, p. 141 by Imâm Abû Bakr al-Âjurrî)

The prophet ('alayhi salâtu wa salâm); "The best among you is the best among you in manners." (Bukhârî (6035) and others)

al-Albânî: "One should not have the watch on the left hand because the Kuffaar have it there, and we should not liken them." (al-Huda wan-Nur 249)

as-Sa'di: "Laziness against the Salaah is a sign that the heart does not long for Allâh." (Taysir ul Karim p. 211)

al-Fawzan: "People do not pray and say that the religion is in the heart. If it were to be in the heart they would have prayed." (al-Ittihaf, p. 536)

Ibn 'Abdil-Hadi: I heard adh-Dhahabî say that Ibn Taymiyyah told him how he met Ibn Daqîq-il-'Îd who said to Ibn Taymiyyah: I didn't believe Allâh would create a creature as you. (al-'Uqud, p. 119)

Ibn Taymiyyah: Dear mother! Do not think that there is anything in this life I wish more than to be close to you! (al-'Uqud, p. 258) - Words of an imprisoned Ibn Taymiyyah

Ibn Taymiyyah: If it then is said that Allâh's knowledge is not as our knowledge, we then say that Allah's descension is not as our descension. (SHN, p. 24)

al-Albânî: “Neither is it allowed to speak like the scholars do, this means that you are showing off.” (Silsila al-Huda wan Noor 191)

The prophet (salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: "The heaviest thing on the scales is good manners." (Silsilah Ahadeeth As-Sahihah No.876)

The prophet ('alayhi salaam) said: "O Jibreel! Why have I never seen Mika'eel (The angel) laugh?" He said: "Mika'eel has not laughed ever since the Fire was created." (Ahmad 3/224 - good according to al-Albaanee)

Allâh said (what means): For each (person), there are angels in succession, before and behind him. They guard him by the command of Allâh. (Surah 13:11)

al-Albani: We do not deny that the earth is round and that it rotates rapidly. (al-Huda wan-Nur 403)

Ibn-ul-Qayyim: When we were afraid and anxious, we used to go to Ibn Taymiyyah. As soon as we saw him and heard him, all negative feelings disappeared. Our hearts were filled with conviction and harmony. Free is He from defects who shows His servants the paradise before they get to meet Him. (al-Wabil, p. 110)

al-Albani: Girl schools are allowed if they consist of correct clothing and that they only are taught by women. Both men and women have the right to knowledge. (al-Huda wan-Nur 806)

Al-Albani: To say that the Devil was an angel contradicts the Qur'an and Sunnah. (al-Huda wan-Nur 265)

ibn Rajab: "Some of the Salaf used to ask Allaah for everything while they were praying such as salt for the dough and grass for the sheep." (al-Jami', p. 276)

al-A'mash: A man asked ash-Sha'bi what the wife of the Devil is called. ash-Sha'bi answered: 'That's a wedding I haven't been on.' (at-Tadhkirah 1/121)

Nafi': Ibn 'Umar was asked about reading behind the Imam. He said: 'If one of you prays behind an Imam then his reading is enough for you.' Nafi': Ibn 'Umar did not read behind the Imam. (al-Istidhkar 1/462)

Al-Hasan al-Basri: The best attribute the believer can possess is forgiveness. (Adab Shar'iyyah 1/121)

Ibn Qayyim-il-Jawziyyah: "Sins have many side-effects. One of them is that they steal knowledge from you." (ad-Da', p.65)

Qur'ân: "And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech.." (31:6, interpretation of the meanings) Ibn 'Abbaas said: "this means singing" [Tafsîr Al-Tabari 21/40]

Shaykhul Islaam ibn Taymiyyah: "Music is forbidden according to all of the four Imaams." (al-Minhaj 3/442)

Ibn Muflih: "The one who jokes by doing Kufr (disbelief) has done kufr even if he apparently doesn't intend it." (al-Furu' 3/416)

'Ali said: The one who reads behind the Imam is not established upon the natural disposition. (al-Mubdi' 2/52)

al-Khattâbî: "Allâh's name "at-Tawwab" means: He who accepts His slaves’ Tawbah (repentance) every time they repent." (al-Asma', p. 99)

al-Albanee: "To always be nice towards these ahl-ul-Bid'ah is against the Sunnah. It is not from the Sunnah to always be nice." (SHN 276)

ibn Taymiyyah: "The Arab polytheists believed in Qadr and that Allaah created everything." (al-Minhaj 3/331)

Yazid bin Maysarah: Allah says: You youth who leave your desire for Me, and strive for Me! With me you are as some of my angels. (az-Zuhd, p.88)

al-Fawzan: It is not allowed to pose a question in order to show that one is more knowledgeable than the one who's questioned. (al-I'anah 1/89)

adh-Dhahabî: "Imaam Ahmad didn't let Dawood adh-Dhahiri visit him because he said that the Qur'aan is created." (at-Tadhkirah 2/109)

Ibn Taymiyyah: Hashish that is made of Cannabis is forbidden. The one who takes it is punished as the alcohol-drinker. (al-'Iraqiyyah 2/930)

Ibn 'Uthaymin: Nothing can affect the wise person as a woman. (Sharh-ul-Bulugh 1/720)

Imâm Ibn-ul-Qayyim: He (I.e. Ibn Taymiyyah) lived poorly. He was imprisoned and threatened. But I have never seen anyone as happy as him. (al-Wabil, p. 110)

Ibn Mas'ud said: 'I do not know of it being Sunnah to read behind the Imam.' Ibn 'Umar said: His reading is enough for you.' (al-Mubdi' 2/52)

Ibn Mas'ud said: I wish that the person who reads behind the Imam gets his mouth filled with sand. (al-Mughni 2/263)

Ibn 'Abdil-Barr: Salih narrated that Ibn 'Umar was silent when the Imam read loudly and he (used to) read when the Imam (was) reading silently. (al-Istidhkar 2/463)

Sh Ibn 'Uthaymin: 'La ilaha illa Allah' means that no one other than Allâh has the right to be worshiped or that there is no true god except Allah. (FHM, tape 20)

Al-Albani: Ahl-ul-Bid'ah are as the christians when it comes to accepting that which suits them. They read the Qur'ân and Sunnah and take that which suits them and lure away from that which doesn't. (al-Huda wan-Nûr 430)

From 'A´ishah who said: that the Messenger of Allah - salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam - said: 'Indeed a man reaches the level of the one who prays the night prayer and fasts during the day, due to his good manners." (Silsilah Ahadith As-Sahihah No.795)

al-Fawzan: "People do not pray and say that the religion is in the heart. If it were to be in the heart they would have prayed." (al-Ittihaf, p. 536)

Ibn 'Uthaymin: Men are smarter than women but there are women whom are smarter than men. (Sharh-ul-Usul, p. 290)

Allâh (ta'âlâ) said: "Allâh! Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists." (2:255, interpretation of its meanings)

Ibn Muflih: It is not obligatory to read al-Fatihah if the Imam is reading loudly. This is reported from 'Ali, Ibn 'Abbas, Ibn Mas'ud, Jabir and Ibn 'Umar. The Majority has this opinion based upon the Hadith: If one has an Imam, the reading of the Imam is one's own reading. (al-Mubdi' 2/51)

al-Albanee: "It is not allowed with boxing if the face is hit." (SHN 262)

"And who turns away from the religion of Ibrâhim (Abraham) (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism) except him who befools himself? Truly, We chose him in this world and verily, in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous." (2:130, interpretation of the meanings)

Ibn 'Uthaymin: "If the Muslims want strength, power and honour, then only one thing is required: That they stick to the 'aqîdah (creed) of the Salaf, (their kind of) worship, charachter..." (Fhm 2)

Ibn 'Abdil-Barr: Malik said: When the Imam is reading silently, one reads behind him. When he is reading loudly, one is silent. This opinion is held by Ibn-ul-Musayyab, Salim, az-Zuhri, Qatadah, Ibn-ul-Mubarak, Ahmad, Ishaq, Dawud and at-Tabari. (al-Istidhkar 2/464)

al-Qurtubî: They sometimes formulate the trinity by saying "The Father, the son and the Holy spirit". Thus, they mean that the Father is the existence, the son is al-Masîh (Messiah) and the Holy spirit is the knowledge. There is a real mess in their speech that clarifies the principles of their religion. (al-Jâmi´ li Ahkâm-il-Qur’ân (6/23))

Ibn Abîl 'Izz al-Hanafî: "Jahmiyyah's sign is that they call Ahl-us-Sunnah as "Mushabbihah"." (Sharh al-'Aqidah at-Tahawiyyah, p. 118)

al-Fawzan: A man who comes to an empty home and doesn't have a wife lives a difficult life, even if the home is full of money and enjoyments. (al-Ittihaf, p. 857)

Luqman said to his son: O dear son! Sit with the scholars. Allâh gives life to hearts with wisdom in the same way as He gives life to the dead land with rain. (Jami' Bayan-il-'ilm 1/211)

Ibn-ul-'Arabi: Our scholars say that one should openly pray against the one who is openly unjust. (al-Ahkam 1/558)

Al-Albânî: “Islâm is Qur’ân and Sunnah according to the understanding of the salaf.” (al-huda wan-Noor 357)

Ahmad al-Warrâq: I came to Ahmad bin Hanbal and complained about poverty. He gave me four silver-coins and said: 'This is all I own.' (Manaqib Ahmad, p. 325)

"Allâh burdens not a person beyond his scope." (The Qur'ân 2:286, interpretation of the meaning)

Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas: I saw Hamzah fight with two swords in front of the messenger of Allâh during the battle of Uhud. He said: 'I am the lion of Allâh!' (as-Siyar 1/177)

Imam al-Asbahani (d.535H) {rahimahullah} said: "The sign of Ahl-us-Sunnah is that they follow the Salaf-us-Salih (I.e. pious predecessors) and abandon all that is innovated and newly introduced into the Din." [Al-Hujjah fi Bayanil Mahajjah 1/364]

Imam Ahmad: Here we have the prophet and his companions and the followers (Tabi'un), and Malik among the residents of Hijaz, and ath-Thawri among the Iraqi residents, and al-Awza'i among the residents of Sham, and al-Layth among the egyptians - none of them have said to a man who does not read behind a reading Imam that his prayer is invalid. (al-Mughni 1/330)

al-Albânî: "al-Ikhwân Al-Muslimûn's religion is sport, football and basketball." (Silsila al-Huda wan Nûr 200)

az-Zuhrî: "We found out that the knowledgeable ones used to say: "The rescue lies in following the Sunnah." (ash-Sharee´ah, p. 311)

Imâm Ibn 'Abdil-Barr: "The narrations that forbid Taqlîd, are not in regards to the laymen. The laymen are obliged to follow their scholars blindly when something happens. None from amongst the scholars say anything else." (al-Jami' 2/228)

Ibn Qudamah: Nine companions of the prophet said that one does not read al-Fatihah when the Imam is reading loudly. They are 'Ali, Ibn 'Abbas, Ibn Mas'ud, Zayd Bin Thabit, Abu Sa'id, Hudhayfah, 'Uqbah, Ibn 'Umar, Jabir and Ibn-uz-Zubayr. (al-Mughni 2/263)

Ibn-ul-Qayyim: Allâh is towards you as you are towards Him and His servants.(al-Wabil, p. 80)

Abûd-Dardâ (radhiya Allâhu ´anh) said: "The one who advises his brother in secret has beautified him and the one who advises his brother openly has uglified him." (al-Amr bil-Ma´rûf wan-Nahî ´an-il-Munkar, p. 39, by Imâm Abu Bakr al-Khallâl)

al-Qurtubi: Shyness lies in the eyes. (at-Tadhkirah, p. 31)

as-Sa'di "Only those with complete faith (Îmân) go out in Jihaad." (Tayseer-ul-Kareem, p.186)

Ibn-ul-Qayyim: If one does not spend one's time for Allah's sake, then it is better to die. (ad-Da', p. 183)

'Abdullâh bin 'amr: If you are not crying, then pretend to cry. For by the One in whose hand my soul lies, if one of you knew, he would have shouted until his voice breaks, and he would have prayed until his back breaks. (at-Tazkiyah, p.124)

Ibn 'Abbâs said: With the trinity they mean Allâh (ta'âlâ), his woman and His son. (al-Djâmi´ li Ahkâm-il-Qur’ân (6/23) by al-Qurtubî)

Ibn Qayyim (rahimahullâh): "Many people sin because they rely on the mercy of Allaah. The one who does that is like a stubborn sinner." (ad-Da', p 31)

The Prophet (Sallâ Allâhu 'Alayhi wa sallam) said: 'It will burn them with a burning, and then their flesh will flow down to their heels." (Related by Ibn Mirdawai)

Ibn Muflih: “It has been reported from several Sahâbah and Tâbi’ûn that they waxed their bodies.” (Adab Shar’iyyah 3/499)

Ibn Taymiyyah: The Imâms of the Salaf (predecessors) are in consensus that Allâh is separate from the creation. (al-Furqan, p. 81)

as-Sa'di: One of the greatest ways of being good towards the creation is to help the needy. (Taysir-ul-Karim, p. 884)

al-Fawzan: If a man is married with a righteous wife, he (will) live a harmonious life even if he is poor. (al-Ittihaf, p. 858)

al-Albani: A woman is allowed to wear high-healed shoes when she's only with her husband in the same way as she is allowed to wear pants with him. (SHN 814)

Yusuf ad-Dakhil: When Sh Muqbil had died, I said to Sh Rabi': The lion of Yemen has died.' He then said: No, but the lion of the world. (sahab.net)

The Messenger - sallâ Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam – said: 'If Allaah intends good for His slave then He hastens his punishment in this world, and if Allaah prescribes evil for His slave, then Allaah holds back his sins until He recompenses them for him on the Day of Judgment.' (Narrated by Tirmidhi & he declared it hasan)

Zayd bin Arqam said: "A man from the fire will be so great (In size) in the fire, so that one of his molar teeth will be like Uhud (the mountain)." (Ahmad (4/367))

Sh Ibn 'Uthaymîn: It is allowed to swear by the Qur'ân if one intends the speech of Allâh and not the Mushaf, which is created. (LBM 103)

Ibn-ul-Qayyim: To think of one's deficiencies is the key to all the good. It subjugates the soul so that it can live harmoniously. (ad-Da', p. 182)
